Rey Juan Carlos University held an information day on the EURICLEA program, its mentoring initiative aimed at strengthening research careers and promoting talent retention. The session began with a welcome from the Vice-Rector for Transfer and Scientific-Technological Structures, followed by a presentation of the Human Resources Seal for Researchers Strategy (HR Seal) and a review of the development and results of the intermediate phase of the program.
Mentors and mentees shared their experiences, highlighting how EURICLEA has facilitated access to networks that have enabled international research stays, preparation for accreditations and six-year periods, and more informed decision-making in their scientific careers. Many stressed the importance of having someone who has already traveled the path, who guides and builds confidence: “The confidence of having someone encouraging you to do X and believing more in yourself has been key,” said one participant. Others underscored the program’s impact in reducing professional errors and consolidating research teams, while several highlighted its value for researchers who are not new PhDs, helping those who lack structured and formalized information about opportunities and procedures. The experience also had a multiplier effect: several mentees expressed their intention to become mentors in the future to “return the favor” and share what they had learned with the rest of the research community.
The day ended with an invitation to continue promoting collaboration and support among researchers. Vice-Rector Fernando Martínez Castillejo stressed the importance of preventing brain drain and working as a team to strengthen the URJC research community.
