For the first time in our history, the Rey Juan Carlos University, acts as Grant Holder Manager in a COST Action: PurpleGain. In this network of excellence, the state-of-the-art knowledge and experience produced in the leading European research institutes in the field of PPB-based resource recovery is used.
The principal investigator of the project is Daniel Puyol, who is coordinating it with the support of URJC’s European Projects Office. The network already consists of more than 149 participants from 26 countries in Europe, the USA, Latin America and Asia. With a very equal percentage in relation to gender parity.
What is the objective?
To create a European network to share information, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer between academia and industry related to the development of Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPB) applications, a group of anaerobic photosynthetic microorganisms inhabiting aquatic and terrestrial environments that are an ideal tool for the recovery of resources from organic waste.
What activities will take place this year?
- 1st Workshop “Applied Physics to PPB-based Environmental Biotechnology” el 25th April, Szeged, Hungary (registration open until April, 18th)
- PurpleWeek: 3-7 July, Madrid, Spain
