The 2023-24 Researchers at risk MSCA call will open for applications on 12 September.
The aim is to provide more personalised and advanced support to researchers at risk, building on the results of previous initiatives in the EU. Although support has been strengthened, challenges remain, such as the lack of regular training and networking activities specifically for these researchers. The proposed action should focus on providing concrete and effective solutions that respond to the identified needs of this vulnerable group.
Definition of researchers at risk: Researchers at risk are those who face threats to their life, freedom, or professional career, forcing them to flee or be displaced. This includes both those with refugee or asylum status, as well as those seeking protection through temporary visas or work permits in academic positions at host institutions outside their home countries.
The proposals should contribute to the following expected impacts:
- More targeted and personalised support to researchers at risk in Europe.
- Improved support through policy recommendations, advice and assistance.
- Sustainable support network facilitating access to funding, opportunities and raising the quality of proposals.
- More synergies between EU initiatives and national or institutional actors.
- Increased exposure to industry and non-academic sector through networking, training and mentoring.
- Increased awareness of the causes of risk and forms of support for researchers.
