In 2026, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) celebrate 30 years of supporting researchers and advancing science in Europe and beyond. The newly adopted MSCA 2026–2027 Work Programme, approved by the European Commission on 15 December 2025 under Horizon Europe, will make available more than €1.25 billion in 2026 to support doctoral and postdoctoral training across all research fields, collaborative research and innovation, and public engagement with science through a new set of calls.
A highlight of the programme is the second MSCA “Choose Europe for Science” call, with a budget of €51.25 million, aimed at offering more attractive and stable career paths for postdoctoral researchers and strengthening Europe’s ability to retain research talent. The call will open on 8 December 2026 and close on 6 April 2027.
A major novelty of the 2026-2027 work programme are horizontal calls, which address cross-cutting challenges across different research and innovation areas. Other novelties also include major simplification to reduce administrative burden on applicants and facilitate participation, focusing on fewer, larger projects to maximise impact, or lump-sum funding for half of the call budget.
Upcoming MSCA funding opportunities for 2026:
- COFUND: 16 December 2025 – 8 April 2026
- Staff Exchanges: 16 December 2025 – 16 April 2026
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: 9 April 2026 – 9 September 2026
- Doctoral Networks: 28 May 2026 – 24 November 2026
