The European Commission is preparing to launch several generative artificial intelligence (AI) calls under the Horizon Europe program, allocating €500 million to tackle industrial challenges using advanced AI technologies. The GenAI4EU initiative, part of a broader strategy announced in January, aims to enhance EU competitiveness in AI by fostering collaboration between research consortia and industries, leveraging company data for practical solutions.
A Commission official emphasized that the funded projects must address real, industry-driven problems. The upcoming calls, set to be published next year, will prioritize sectors such as healthcare, mobility, cybersecurity, energy, and agriculture.
Generative AI, known for creating text, images, and other content, has yet to revolutionize the industry despite its public popularity. The Commission focuses on specialized applications of generative AI in industrial sectors, aiming to move from proof-of-concept projects to scalable solutions. This initiative highlights the EU’s commitment to leveraging disruptive technologies for economic and societal benefits.
