The call ‘Transition to post-quantum Public Key Infrastructures’ (DIGITAL-ECCC-2025-DEPLOY-CYBER-08-PUBLICPQC) of the Digital Europe programme, aimed at fostering the deployment of quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions in Public Key Infrastructures (PKI), is now open.
The call will remain open until 7 October 2025 (17:00 Brussels time) and seeks to fund projects that develop tools, protocols and strategies to integrate post-quantum cryptographic algorithms in a secure, efficient and compatible way with current systems.
Objective
Facilitate the progressive and secure transition towards hybrid cryptographic infrastructures (pre- and post-quantum) in critical sectors such as public administration, telecommunications, banking, e-health or automotive.
Eligible activities
Projects may include:
- Design and testing of cryptographic combinators.
- Experimental evaluation of hybrid certificates (such as X.509).
- Development and improvement of open source libraries.
- New protocols for certificate management and cryptographic transparency.
- Studies on alternatives to X.509 and their applicability.
- Training, awareness and support for standardisation.
